I like to be organized. I NEED to be organized. But, unless I have a method to the madness, it is hard to KEEP things organized. One of those irritatingly disorganized facets of my life was the utensils drawer. A good word to describe it? Crammed. Can’t shut it crammed. Having everything in a drawer is not an easy way to see the items that I own. First, I purged many items, but the drawer was still too full.
I needed a solution.
A DIY kitchen utensil storage solution that will work.
A solution that can be easily maintained.
I have a cabinet that happened to have one of these wire drawers attached to it. It is great because it slides out. It must have been a garbage can holder for the previous owners. It is something like this.
I decided that would be the perfect spot to store all of the kitchen utensils. I happened to have some scrap PVC pipe that is 4.5 inches in diameter. You can pick this up at any home improvement store. My husband cut it into two different heights. Measure your utensils and decide on the heights that work best for you.
Using my glue gun I attached the pipes to each other. I used enough to fill the slide out drawer. Because the drawer has holes in the bottom, I used a piece of scrap rubber to fill this spot. You could also cut a thin piece of plywood to add to this area, or white posterboard. I found it was not necessary to attach the glued pieces to the bottom.
Now, I have a great place to store the utensils. It is also by the dishwasher, so that makes it especially handy for my 11 year old son who in charge of emptying the dishwasher.
